Glenn Haggstrom, left, testifies at a hearing at the Colorado Capitol last year. The Department of Veterans Affairs construction chief announced his retirement last week. (Kathryn Scott Osler, Denver Post file)

Re: “National Veterans Affairs Construction chief out over Aurora hospital,” March 26 news story.

I read with great interest that the Department of Veterans Affairs is allowing construction chief Glenn Haggstrom to retire without penalty. He gets to keep $64,000 in bonuses and walks out the door with a substantial retirement – leaving taxpayers with a $900 billion bill for an unfinished hospital in Aurora. This is unconscionable.

What kind of leaders do we have in the VA administration? Just a slap on the wrist and slip out to retirement, done and over, while American veterans are left hanging with a much-needed, unfinished hospital that is years behind schedule.
