Folks in northeast Denver are always looking for a new restaurant, especially when it comes to breakfast and brunch. Now they have an excellent addition to the Denver breakfast scene: in the Stapleton development.
The place does breakfast and lunch, plus weekend brunch, and is open daily at 2893 Roslyn St. in the 29th Avenue Town Center. Hats off to their recognition that lots of us don’t want to wait until 8 a.m. for our omelets and pancakes. Four Friends hits the ground running at 6:30 a.m. and closes six hours later.
Billing itself as “An American Eatery with Southern Charm” — one of the owners has family roots in Alabama — the restaurant delivers, slow-cooked grits and all.
On one recent morning I enjoyed, big-time, a smoked brisket hash topped with two poached eggs. The diced beef was tender and laced with sauteed onions, sweet peppers, green chiles in a melange of barbecued potatoes. Yes, there was cheese in there, plus a schmear of a sweet red chile sauce that, I swear, tasted like it was spiked with a bit of caraway.
Oh, and there was a side of tender cornbread. Score!
It was a great way to start the day. Given how quickly the place filled up, there are lots of hungry Stapleton residents who agree.
And yes, it’s absolutely kid friendly.
