Re: “A single dad, an old newspaper article and a life in journalism,” March 31 Alicia Caldwell column.
Alicia Caldwell (Cyrus McCrimmon, Denver Post file)
In reading Alicia Caldwell’s column, I am saddened to learn that it is her last — but so happy that she wrote it. The sensitivity and kindness she showed to 8-year-old Tara and her single dad, Dave Goodwin, years ago in Florida and shared with her current Colorado readers is typical of the writer and person she is.
It is lamentably too rare to read in today’s news gracious words of encouragement and empathy; Caldwell’s recent column on the grieving parents of Arapahoe High School shooting victim Claire Davis is but another example of a seemingly-small event which deserves the public’s attention and awareness and which she describes with beauty, poignancy and compassion.
The Post’s loss is the Colorado Department of Human Services’ gain; how blessed they are to have Caldwell as their new communications director.
