The Broncos maintained interest in center Will Montgomery throughout the offseason. However, the opportunity to acquire Gino Gradkowski from Baltimore changed their stance, leading Montgomery to the continuing reunion of Broncos’ employees in Chicago.
One day after the Broncos acquired Gradkowski, whose contract is not guaranteed, Montgomery signed with the Bears on Thursday. He replaces longtime center Robert Garza, who will be released. Montgomery will find an immediate comfort level with former Broncos coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase in charge in Chicago. Montgomery started eight games for the Broncos a year ago, helping settle the middle of the line after Manny Ramirez struggled in the first half of the season.
Montgomery played one year for the Broncos after signing as a free agent.
