Jamaican striker Luton Shelton is in Commerce City visiting with the Colorado Rapids in what is being described by Paul Bravo as “exploratory on both sides.”
The all-time leading goal scorer in Jamaican history (35 goals in 75 appearances) is currently with Russian club Volga Nizhny Novgorod.

“We’ve been tracking him for a number of years,” Bravo, the Rapids vice president of soccer operations and technical director, said Friday.
Bravo said Shelton is a speedy, goal-scoring threat who “checks a lot of boxes” and could potentially play four different positions in the Rapids’ attack. Shelton has a decade of experience playing in Europe, including time with VÃ¥lerenga, the .
The 29-year-old striker also has experience playing against the top teams in CONCACAF as a member of Jamaica’s national team, and scored against the U.S. in a 2012 World Cup qualifying match. Bravo said the Rapids have had an eye on Shelton since then.
“He’s in his prime still,” Bravo said.
Bravo stressed that “nothing is done at this point” and both sides are weighing their options.
