Last week, former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen announced that she had , a remarkable improvement following her ATV accident last June that severed her spinal cord an left her paralyzed from the waist down.
But things keep getting better for Van Dyken-Rouen.
On Friday, a video was posted to of her walking with crutches (and her bionic leg devices), with the message: “Sorry to blow up your feed, but I just graduated to crutches!! #WalkingWednesdayOnFriday #amysarmy.
Van Dyken-Rouen, a six-time gold-medalist who graduated from Cherry Creek High School, has returned to her home in Arizona after spending a couple months at Englewood’s Craig Hospital after the accident. Her recovery, and outlook, is nothing short of incredible given that doctors instructed her to give her goodbyes to family members before her first surgery after the accident.
Her latest bit of progress drew reactions and congratulatory messages from the many following her recovery, including friend and former colleague Kenny Lofton:
“: I just graduated to crutches!! ” that’s awesome
