The Rapids have not extended an offer to former FC Barcelona defender Carles Puyol, an MLS source told The Denver Post on Monday. A Rapids spokesman declined to comment.
The Barcelona-based publication “Sport” from the Rapids and from a soccer league in Qatar.
Puyol, 36, retired in May because of problems with his knees. He was a legend in Spain, scoring the winning goal in a critical 1-0 victory over Germany during the 2010 World Cup, which Spain won.
The Rapids have struggled mightly this season, having now gone 600 minutes without a goal. They are now winless in their past 18 games, stretching back to the summer of 2014, tying a record set by Real Salt Lake during the 2005-06 seasons.
