Interview with Karen Martiz, Colorado esthetician
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: My love for the world of beauty and skin care started at a very young age. Growing up in New York, I couldn’t help but be exposed to the beauty industry early on and was always interested in how the industry was evolving, reading glamour magazines and testing out new products from salons and spas. After moving to Colorado, the dry weather began to affect my skin and I realized how many people needed relief from the irritation caused by the climate out here. I learned how each person’s skin reacts to dryness differently; for some, their skin gets red and flaky while others produce excess sebum, causing acne. I quickly realized that my passion for beauty and skin care could be used to really make a difference in people’s lives. We’ve helped many Coloradans of all skin types retain moisture in their complexions, and it’s been remarkably rewarding to be able to use my passion to help others feel more comfortable in their own skin.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We understand that every person’s skin is different and we customize our approach based on each client’s unique skin tone, texture and tolerance to ensure the products we use give our clients the results they desire. We built Skin Cleaners around high quality customer service and we pride ourselves on giving a personal, relatable touch with each of our treatments. We take the time to listen to our clients’ concerns and put in our best effort to make sure our guests feel welcome the moment they first step foot in the door. Calming colors and sleek, modern décor complement our down-to-earth staff and create an environment that’s naturally friendly, inviting, and relaxing. Our team genuinely and sincerely cares about what each client is going through and we love being able to cater to their individual needs to help them both look and feel their best.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The best part of my job is getting to make a positive impact on our guests’ lives while connecting with them on a personal level. There is no better feeling than seeing a client walk out of our office with a confident glow and knowing we had something to do with it.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Running a business like ours can be challenging in that we are always trying to please multiple demographics; we offer treatments for people of all ages and walks of life and it can be a balancing act to make everyone feel welcome.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: With such a personal and caring approach, people are often surprised at how much expert knowledge is actually behind our techniques. We base all of our recommendations off of each client’s unique skin type: our proven acne-fighting system takes into account nearly every aspect of a client’s lifestyle.
