Two games into the 2015 Major League Baseball season and the Colorado Rockies are 2-0 with an impressive 15 runs, 12 doubles and 28 hits.
Things are looking good but the Rockies are known for getting off to a fast start only to collapse later on in the season. Is there any indication that this season may turn out differently?
For shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, it’s good that the Rockies’ success is coming on the road.
“What sticks out to me when I hear that, is that I’m really happy that it’s on the road,” Tulowitzki said . “The first thing we would hear if we were at home was about how it’s a hitter’s ballpark, and they are at home, so that’s why all the doubles. So wait until they go on the road.”
The Sports Show AM’s Eric Goodman and Chad Brown weighed in on how long they believed the Rockies’ good performance would hold up.
Brown said it’s great to be hitting well on the road but the real test will be time.
“You don’t want to play your best baseball in April, you want to do it in September and October,” Brown said. “So, as we talked about at the open of the show, yeah we can get excited but don’t hurt us and disappoint us when you’re supposed to be playing your best baseball.”
Brown and Goodman also spoke to the team’s injury history and how the Rockies’ inability to stay healthy has hindered them in the past.
Brown said that while the Rockies have a lot of great players, the team lacks the depth to withstand multiple injuries. That lack of depth is what separates Colorado from the MLB’s best, he said.
“They’ve got some true all stars, best in the game kind of players with [Carlos Gonzalez] and Troy Tulowitzki but without health you don’t have anything,” he said. “You’ve got guys who are in the tub and not on the diamond.”
