A Weld County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, and an internal investigation has been launched after new information surfaced last month in the case of a corrections deputy .
Three patrol deputies and a supervisor responded to the fatal shooting of Ashley Fallis in Evans. The office said in a news release Wednesday that on March 19 it “received new information that a deputy might have material information … that had never been reported.”
Tom Fallis, the 35-year-old former deputy, was in the death of his 28-year-old wife. Ashley Fallis’ death initially was ruled a suicide before her case was reopened in April 2014 after a year-long investigation by Fox31.
The sheriff’s office declined to release the names of the deputies who responded to the fatal shooting, citing the ongoing internal investigation.
“This is an active criminal and internal investigation,” the release said.
The indictment against Tom Fallis alleges that he killed his wife after a New Year’s party when he became “irate” because he thought Ashley Fallis was going to smoke marijuana.
A lawsuit on behalf of Ashley Fallis’ parents filed in U.S. District Court suggesting their daughter was murdered.
An amended version filed Tuesday and reviewed by 7News included allegations against “presently unknown” members of the sheriff’s office who the lawsuit says “actively participated in the willful suppression or destruction of material evidence.”
