Aurora police are asking the public for help investigating the 7 p.m. Thursday hit-and-run accident on East Colfax Avenue at Kingston Street that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

Police Saturday released the victim’s name, Gregory Lawrence Tafoya, 57. He remains in critical condition. Police said Tafoya might be homeless, and they are seeking anyone who knows him or has information about the auto-pedestrian crash. Tafoya is described by police as 5-foot-3, 110 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

A vehicle, which is described as a silver BMW, fled the scene after striking Tafoya as he crossed Colfax from a center median, police said. The car was recovered a short time later in the area of East Seventh Avenue and Moline Street. Afterwards, the registered owner of the BMW called Aurora police to report the vehicle had been stolen earlier that evening.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
