LOS ANGELES — Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr said he intends to retire after a 15-year NHL career.

Regehr made the announcement in the dressing room Saturday after the defending Stanley Cup champions’ season ended with a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Regehr turns 35 next week. He spent his first 11 seasons with the Calgary Flames before joining the Kings for the past 2½ years, playing a major role on Los Angeles’ standout defense.

Regehr won a Stanley Cup ring with the Kings last summer despite appearing in only the first eight playoff games, missing time with a knee injury.

Regehr played for Canada at the 2006 Olympics and two world championships. He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with the 19th pick in the first round of the 1998 NHL Draft. He was traded to Calgary in a package that brought all-star forward Theoren Fleury to the Avs.

He had three goals and 10 assists in 67 games this season.
