A driver in a black Chevy sedan sideswiped a Colorado State Patrol car around 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs, prompting a chase north on Interstate 25 during which the driver of the fleeing vehicle escaped, officials said.

After striking a trooper’s vehicle the driver took off northbound on I-25, said state patrol spokesman Tim Sutherland.

During the chase, troopers threw spikes into the road to stop the fleeing driver, but the driver avoided them, Sutherland said. The patrol stopped the chase before entering a construction zone near Castle Rock due to safety concerns, the patrol said.

Nobody was injured during the incident, he said.

The car reportedly collided with other vehicles near I-25 and C-470, the patrol said.

The car has heavy front and side damage and the front bumper may be torn off, the patrol tweeted shortly before 7 p.m.
