Interview with Larry Green, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I was actually looking for a place to open a Hot Wing franchise. I found Granny Scott’s listed for sale and though that it was an interesting concept. With very little training and only 10 days until Thanksgiving, we jumped in with everything we had. Now, 16 years later, we are still at it.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We make all our pies from scratch and by hand. It is very labor intensive, but we feel it is worth the extra effort.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The customers who come in are wonderful. When someone comes in and gets a pie, we know that we are filling void that can’t be found everywhere.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Working with the employees is one of the biggest challenges. Working around their “non work” schedule can be hard at times. Spring break, we had half of our staff requesting the week off.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I had never made a pie before buying the pie shop.
