John Andrews, director of the Western Conservative Summit, speaks at the 2013 summit in Denver. (Denver Post file)
Re: “In defense of not hosting Log Cabin Republicans,” April 18 guest commentary.
John Andrews opens his column defending his Western Conservative Conference’s banning of specific representation for Log Cabin Republicans, a gay Republican group, with two paragraphs of analogies that put gays in the most negative possible light.
Among them we find such gems as that gays are to Christian conservatives as Holocaust deniers are to Jews and as Fred Phelps, famous for his vicious hatred of gays, is to Log Cabin Republicans.
Since Jews certainly do not love Holocaust deniers nor can gays be expected to love anti-gay hate mongers like Fred Phelps, one can only wonder why Andrews chose a string of such analogies to support his claim that his conference is not anti-gay and stands for love of everyone. Was Saturday Opposites Day?
