Saturday: The Metropolitan Opera’s live HD broadcasts finish up the 2014-15 season with a crowd-pleaser. The double bill of shorties “Cavalleria Rusticana,” by Mascagni, and “Pagliacci,” by Leoncavallo. This is the Met’s first new production of the twin classics in 45 years and is directed by David McVicar. The pressure for this event is on Argentinian singer Marcelo Álvarez, who is taking on both of the lead tenor roles as the manipulative Turiddu and the world’s saddest clown, Canio. It’s a star-studded cast but most eyes will likely be on American soprano Patricia Racette, who sings the part of Nedda, Canio’s doomed wife. 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at movie theaters across Colorado, including the Denver Pavilions 16 on the 16th Street Mall. $18-$24. There is a pre-recorded encore presentation at 6:30 p.m. April 29.
