Colorado Rapids midfielder Marcelo Sarvas has been suspended two games by Major League Soccer, according to information released by the league.
Sarvas was listed as “suspended” through the Rapids April 29 match against New York Red Bulls in the game notes released ahead of Friday’s match against FC Dallas at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, however it wasn’t immediately clear what the league had penalized him for. MLS said the disciplinary report was due out Thursday.

In the , the Rapids’ Brazlian midfielder stomped on Seattle Sounders’ striker Clint Dempsey while the U.S. captain was on the ground. Dempsey appears to grab for Sarvas’ leg and then Sarvas’ foot comes down on Demspey’s groin area.
Dempsey stayed down after the incident and play was stopped while he received treatment. Sarvas was not called for a foul on the play. It came moments after Sarvas kicked a ball off Dempsey as he fell to the grass, which led the two to exchange words.
Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni said he did not see the play for which Sarvas was suspended.
Sarvas is the second Rapids player suspended by the Disciplinary Committee this season. for one match for getting his cleats into the back of Philadelphia Union forward Andrew Wenger.
Sarvas missed time in training this week dealing with a knee injury.
“He’s been dealing with a swollen knee with all kinds of different elements in that knee since the game in Philly,” Mastroeni said Tuesday.

With midfielder Sam Cronin still out as he goes through concussion protocol, Mastroeni said he plans to use either Nick LaBrocca or Jared Watts in defensive midfield. Both saw time there last season and LaBrocca is listed as the probable starter in the game notes.
“That’s the one position where I think we’re pretty comfortable as far as coverage is concerned,” Mastroeni said. “And center back, as well.”
The Rapids take on FC Dallas at 8 p.m. Friday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
