The Colorado Rapids are close to signing Argentinian striker Luis Solignac of Nueva Chicago in the Argentine first division, an MLS source told The Denver Post on Thursday.

News of the transfer was by Argentinian newspaper La Nacion.

A Rapids spokesman declined to comment on the report, citing team policy.

Solignac, 24, played on loan for IFK Mariehamn in the Finnish Premier Division the last two years where he scored 20 goals in 40 matches. He has also played professionally in Portugal, Sweden and Argentina.

The transfer comes at a time when the Rapids need to add quality and depth in the attack. The Rapids have scored five goals in six matches this season, despite taking the third most shots per game (14.2) in MLS. The likely won’t join the club until July 1.
