Interview with Chrystal Bruffet, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I was a carpenter in the building industry from 11 years old. I wanted to be able to function and move my body when I was older, and a friend of mine who was an artist said I should go into furniture repair because I use my artistic abilities and carpentry skills. So I did that, and it was a good fit.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: I’ve been a carpenter for 26 years and I’ve been doing furniture since 2000. I do in-home repairs, insurance work, I do refinishing in offices and homes, I do some artisan work and I also have a shop. So I cover all of the different areas and pack a lot into my business.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I really enjoy people and I love making something that has been used over the years and might need a little restoration to keep it going. The gratification is taking something that people think can’t be fixed and making it beautiful again and surprising people with the quality and craftsmanship. Being able to do something I enjoy is fun.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The office part of the business, probably. I don’t particularly like the bookkeeping and management aspect. The creative part is the fun part.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I work with all types of furniture. I can restore all kinds of things from antiques to modern furniture. I like doing stained glass, as well. I really am open to trying anything. I particularly love restoring antiques though. I actually restored a courtroom and judge’s chambers in the Denver Civic Center. I also have eight granddaughters and a great granddaughter, and I spend a lot of time with my family.
