A plan to expand weekend bicycle access to the 16th Street Mall won approval Monday night from the Denver City Council.

Bikes, long allowed on Sundays, soon will be able to share the transitways with the MallRide shuttles all day on Saturdays, too. The city and some new signs along intersecting bike lanes downtown.

The council approved the measure 12-0 as part of a block vote.

The buses run up to 13 times an hour on weekends. That’s less than half as often as during the week, when bicyclists are not allowed to use the mall. The increased mall access is to improve bicycle access in and near downtown.
