THORNTON — The Adams 12 Five Star School District has a new school board member representing District 4 after the school board unanimously voted at a special meeting Wednesday to appoint Brian Batz.

Last fall, elected board candidate so the district temporarily appointed her opponent Rico Figueroa to the seat. On March 2, the that a new member needed to be elected by the board by May 1.

Batz, a senior manager of the U.S. project management office at Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation in Denver, beat out five other candidates for the position, which he will formally accept at the regular school board meeting May 6.

Batz has three sons who went through or are currently in Adams 12 schools.

During the interview process he said: “I have had to take an active role in advocating for (my sons) in the schools they attend(ed). It is through this experience that I have learned a great deal of what challenges the teachers and the administrative staff face.”
