The Continental vs. Centennial Challenge boys basketball tournament is back for round two this year.
After , the three-day boys hoops tournament between teams from the two most difficult leagues in the state will return to Heritage High School again this summer from June 17-19.
Sixteen teams will be involved this year from both leagues, including an additional school coming from the JeffCo League (Lakewood).
“Due to the many coaching changes in the Continental League, some of the coaches declined to be a part,” Heritage boys hoops coach Jentry Byleveld said in a statement. “So I had to find a very competitive team from outside our league to fill in and keep this the most competitive summer tourney in the state.” A minor change to the schedule, but Byleveld said all the coaches welcomed it.
Sidebar on just how good these leagues really are: seven of the eight teams in the 2015 Class 5A boys basketball state tournament Great Eight were from either Continental or Centennial; then three of the four teams in the Final Four, and both teams in the championship (Overland, ThunderRidge).
Dave Hall will organize the officiating and invite college coaches to attend. The schedule will be released next week, but the games will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. all three days.
