DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — Durango residents are complaining of a low-flying plane late at night, but nearby Air Force bases say they are not responsible.
The Durango Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1GLyCuc ) that the plane has lights and propeller engines and has woken residents around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday and Wednesday. Some residents have reported hearing it other nights as late as 1:30 a.m.
Officials from Cannon Air Force Base and Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico say they have no operations in the area. Cannon sometimes sends planes to fly at low altitude in the mountains after dark to simulate Afghanistan terrain.
A Kirtland spokesman said the base has also gotten complaints about aircraft in Northern Arizona.
The mystery aircraft has been seen traveling southeast over the Animas Valley and the city of Durango.
