Two of the five candidates running to represent Denver Council District 10 were in a close race in with most ballots counted Tuesday night.

Wayne New, a retired hospital executive, led with 37 percent of the votes, and Anna Jones, an economic development consultant and adjunct University of Colorado Denver professor, had 32.5 percent.

Travis P. Leiker, assistant director of alumni relations at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, was third with 19.5 percent.

Chris Cornell Wedor, an auditor with the city, had 6 percent; and Chris Chiari, a business consultant, had 5 percent.

They are running for the seat held by term-limited Jeanne Robb.

A candidate needs more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff.

At a forum March 25 at the Denver Botanic Gardens, candidates cited growth, affordable housing and traffic as the major issues they would work to address, if elected.

Residents have raised concerns about the homeless and a methadone clinic set to open.
