Friday-Saturday: Although DanceAfrica began in New York 38 years ago as a way to celebrate African culture and its diaspora, Denver-based dance maven Cleo Parker Robinson has been hosting her satellite version only for the last five. Still, that’s plenty of time for her to have cemented its traditions, and Cleo will close out the two-weekend program May 8-9 with African dance and music workshops, as well as an African Market of crafts and foods in the lobby of the newly renovated Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre. The centerpiece is the performances by Step Afrika!, a percussive dance company that trades in (you guessed it) stepping (a joyous form of dance familiar to historically African-American college groups). 7:30 p.m. May 8, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 9 at 119 Park Avenue West. $30-$40. 303-295-1759, ext. 13 or .
