
The family of an has scheduled a memorial service.
A celebration of the life of Thomas Ely Taplin Jr., 61, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. May 16 at Denver Botanic Gardens.
Taplin died at Mount Everest base camp after an earthquake in Nepal triggered an enormous avalanche. He had been filming a documentary about the history of the base camp.
Taplin was born in Denver on July 10, 1953. He was an alumnus of Kent Denver School, Lake Forest College and California Institute of the Arts.
He is survived by his wife, Cory Freyer; his mother, Beatrice Taplin; and his brothers, Ted, Buzz and Frank.
