Five people were injured, several of them seriously, when Wheat Ridge police say a 17-year-old boy speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol early Monday slammed into two vehicles, including an ambulance.

Authorities say the teen is believed to have been driving about 100 mph just before the wreck.

The crash happened on West 38th Avenue near Lutheran Medical Center at about 12:30 a.m., police said. The ambulance struck in the crash was transporting a patient. Police say the teen was being booked.
