Kyle Goodwin capped off his high school career by making it a clean sweep in diving.
The Regis Jesuit senior, who had won the 1-meter springboard title as a freshman, sophomore and junior, capped his final title in style, breaking Arapahoe’s Aaron Feight’s 10-year-old record with 611.85 points at the Class 5A boys state swimming and diving championship Saturday at the Air Force Academy.
The University of Missouri-bound Goodwin became the first boy to win four titles, and joins Loveland’s Michal Bower and St. Mary’s Academy’s Alexa Beckwith as the only divers to accomplish the feat in Colorado.
Regis Jesuit, however, was unable to claim another state team title. Winners of 21 championships since 1992, the Raiders were defeated by upstart Fossil Ridge, which won the first boys swimming title in the Fort Collins school’s history. Freshman Danny Kovac won the 100 backstroke and helped the team win the 200 freestyle relay.
Cherry Creek’s Samuel Coleman pulled off the sweep of the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, helping the Bruins to a third-place finish. Boulder’s Christian Feiler won the 50 free.
