Douglas Bruce, the author of Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, after an incident following a Denver court appearance last month, city prosecutors confirmed Monday morning.
Melissa Drazen-Smith, assistant director of prosecution and code enforcement at the Denver city attorney’s office, said her office will not pursue charges because there is “no likelihood of conviction.” Drazen-Smith said the decision, which the city’s district attorney’s office also made earlier, was finalized last week.
Bruce was accused of assault at the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse on April 10. A grabbing a cellphone out of the hands of Dede Laugesen, executive director of Colorado Springs Government Watch. Bruce was leaving the courthouse following a hearing in which prosecutors in his felony 2012 tax evasion conviction.
Bruce he is “feeling vindicated.”
