A Syrian flag flies in Damascus, Syria. U.S. commandos mounted a rare raid into eastern Syria overnight, killing a senior Islamic State commander in a firefight, capturing his wife and rescuing a Yazidi woman held as a slave, the Pentagon said on May 16. (The Associated Press file)
Re: “Islamic State is biggest threat since World War II,” May 20 guest commentary.
I am disappointed that The Denver Post published such a misinformative guest commentary as the one by James H. Davis, a principal at a Longmont “public safety” company. Claiming that the Islamic State is “perhaps the most significant threat since World War II” appears to be self-serving of his business interests.
Davis might be too young to fully appreciate the threat posed by the Soviet Union and its communist ideology, but I doubt it. He was, after all, in the FBI for 26 years. To claim now that the Islamic State is even “perhaps” as significant a threat as USSR’s aspirations of world domination and constant threat of total annihilation is inarguably senseless. Just visit Cheyenne Mountain.
