Colorado man faces attempted murder charge in alleged attack on wife with hatchet, knife

Prosecutors filed attempted murder charges Friday against a 68-year-old man accused of with a knife and a hatchet.

Leland Thomas Kintzele faces allegations of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He also faces six additional charges in the May 16 attack, according to the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Kintezle allegedly tried to kill his 52-year-old wife during a domestic dispute at the couple’s home on Old Squaw Pass Road. authorities say. The county sheriff’s office said Kintzele stabbed himself before investigators arrived at the scene.

“The details of this case are quite disturbing and further evidence that domestic violence is an ongoing challenge,” Bruce Brown, district attorney, said in a statement.

Kintzele’s wife was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment. Officials have not provided an update on her medical status.
