A 21-year-old man was arrested early Friday in Colorado Springs on suspicion of harassment, assault and violating a protection order after he was stabbed in the shoulder by his girlfriend as she apparently tried to protect herself.
Kent Clark also faces a charge of reckless endangerment in the case, police say. He was taken to the El Paso County jail.
Officers were called out to an apartment on the 700 block of Chapman Drive at about 1 a.m. on reports of a stabbing. Clark’s girlfriend told investigators that an altercation began after he threw a beer bottle at her.
“A physical struggle ensued and continued throughout the apartment,” police said in a news release. “At one point, while being physically assaulted, the (girlfriend) grabbed a knife and stabbed (Clark) in the back side of his shoulder.”
Clark was found by officers a few blocks away and was taken to a local hospital for treatment for minor injuries before his arrest, police say.
Police said the girlfriend also had minor injuries, but did not elaborate on her condition or say if she faces any charges in the encounter.
