GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A former bookkeeper in the Garfield County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports (http://bit.ly/1LMTNhF ) that 52-year-old Robin McMillan was sentenced Thursday for theft from $20,000 to $100,000 and to filing a false tax return.
Police say she estimated that she stole about $50,000 from the office, but a victim impact statement from early October listed the loss as $411,000 dating back to 2008. She will be required to pay restitution.
McMillan pleaded guilty in April. At her sentencing, District Court Judge Denise Lynch disregarded the sentencing recommendation of probation and 90 days in jail and instead invoked aggravating circumstances, which allows for twice the usual penalty.
