Hey bartender: After nearly 27 years, Paul Weissmann to leave the Blue Parrot Restaurant

(DENVER, Colo., 1/5/2005) Representative Paul Weissmann, 40, (D) Louisville tends bar and is a manager at the Blue Parrot Italian Restaurant in Louisville. Weissmann has worked at the Louisville institution (it's been open for 85 years) for 16 years and said that half the people that walk in have no idea what he does outside of the restaurant. He said bartending keeps him in touch with everyone's concerns and that he often gets ideas from patrons that are helpful while tending bar. Weissmann has worked on water conservation and campaign and election reform issues in the past. Boulder County Democrat Paul Weissmann, a fixture on the political scene for , on Saturday night will work his last shift as a bartender at the Blue Parrot Restaurant in Louisville.

Weissmann has worked for almost 27 years, including during his stints in the Colorado Senate and House. He also managed the restaurant and did its books.

“It’s going to be weird. I’m going to go nuts,” he said of suddenly having weekends free.

Weissmann, who is about to turn 51, developed a reputation at the state Capitol as a . Sometimes for caucus luncheons or committee meetings that ran late he brought in spaghetti, salad and bread from the Blue Parrot. He currently is the Boulder County treasurer.
