Fairview senior Ryan Madden was named Thursday as the 2014-15 Gatorade Colorado Baseball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound pitcher had a 7-2 record with a 1.41 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched for the Knights, helping the team to a 17-4 record. At the plate, he batted .446 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs.
“It is easy to see the leadership qualities he possesses with his peers,” Horizon coach Ralph Garcia said in a news release. “Take away his pure baseball skill-set, and that would still be a kid I would want to surround myself with due to his passion and love of the sport.”
Madden is the first Fairview player to receive the honor from Gatorade. He signed to play at Oklahoma next year.
