Jack Jobanputra , 7, knows a thing or two about bravery, so when it came time to put a Make-A-Wish idea into action, he knew becoming a superhero was the way to go.

Decked in a bright green jumpsuit and matching face mask, Jack, of Greenwood Village, was officially announced as the Green Blaze, a superhero of his creation, by Gov. John Hickenlooper on Friday at the state capitol.

Jack’s spinal muscular atrophy confines him to a wheelchair that he used Friday to spin himself in a circle and address a crowd of cheering fans.

Kris Jobanputra, Jack’s mother, said her son was originally inspired by the and things got rolling from there. His love of superheroes led him to create the Green Blaze, based on his affinity for the Green Lantern, he said.

After reading a proclamation, the governor said Jack was “Colorado’s very own superhero” which the Green Blaze would put to the test Saturday. A string of surprise activities await the Green Blaze and his sidekick and sister, Julia, on Saturday including saving a damsel in distress, fighting villains and protecting historical attractions in Denver, according to a Make-A-Wish news release.

“I like surprises,” Jack said. “We don’t know what we’re up against tomorrow, but we’re up for the task.”

When the ceremony was over, fans around Jack’s community lined up for autographs while his family smiled on proudly.

“I’ve been instructed to get nowhere near him to protect his identity,” said Jack’s mother, Kris Jobanputra. “He is absolutely living a dream.”
