Milk & Honey Bar • Kitchen, the luxury tavern on , is now open – after months of anticipation and postponements. The historic space at 1414 Larimer has been completely remodeled, and construction took longer than expected.
“Itap all brand new,” said chef-owner Michael Shiell. “Itap glorious.”
Shiell is known to many for his popular late ‘90s restaurant Michael’s Cherry Creek, which closed in 2000. That year, he moved to New York and worked as executive chef at Baldoria near Manhattan’s theater district, recruited by the Pellegrino family that owned the legendary East Harlem restaurant Rao’s – who happened to be close family friends.
Then he spent time working as a restaurant consultant, and was living in California’s Orange County when he decided to start a new restaurant in Denver.
This spring, he hired Lance Barto – formerly of — as sous chef.
“The collaboration is seamless,” he said. “We bounce a lot of stuff back and forth. Itap a lot of fun.”
The menu offers charcuterie and such small plates as Steamed Bangs Island Mussels ($13), Peeky Toe Crab Cake ($16), and Oxtail Ravioli ($13).
Entrees include Barbecue Spiced Muscovy Duck ($31), Black Soy Beef Filet ($36), and Roast Kurobuta Pork ($29).
