There is nothing amusing about the arrest last week of John Bowlen, son of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, on misdemeanor domestic violence charges after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend against a bathroom wall.
OK, maybe one thing, come to think of it. Besides boastfully identifying himself on the 911 call as the Broncos owner and a friend of the mayor, the 29-year-old Bowlen also asserted that he was “the blood of the city” — the most weirdly self-important idea we’ve heard of in a long, long time.
Blood of the city? It sounds like an urban fantasy adventure — which a quick check on Amazon confirms that it is.
Presumably Bowlen meant that he is the personification of Denver, given his association with its most popular sports franchise. Perhaps someone should tell him that not everyone in the community lives and breathes football.
And maybe that same adviser might let Bowlen know that if he wants the public to respect him, the worst possible tactic is to dwell on his personal importance, especially when it’s mostly in his mind.
As for the ghoulish moniker “blood of the city,” we wish it on no one.
