Forecasters are calling for a high near 88 degrees in Denver on Tuesday with a slight chance of storms ahead of what is expected to be a wet rest of the week.

The National Weather Service in Boulder says skies will be sunny and winds light in the city on Tuesday.

“There will be a slight chance for thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, mainly over the higher terrain,” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin. “If storms form today, they are expected to be weak with brief, heavy rain and gusty outflow winds.”

On Wednesday, a front of cool and moist air will settle over the region and stick around through the weekend, leaving a better chance of storms.

“The threat of flooding will also increase, especially Thursday night with heavy rain expected with slow moving storms,” according to the bulletin. “It will be a little drier on Saturday with a better chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday.”

Forecasters say subtropical moisture will be “streaming” into Colorado ahead of the late-week system, boosting rain production.
