Three teenaged boys suspected of spray painting public art pieces around Castle Rock were apprehended Wednesday — after their parents turned them in to police.

“We especially thank the parents who did the right thing, even though it was difficult,” said Castle Rock Police Chief Jack Cauley.

Late last week, police asked for the public’s help in finding at least three suspects who were spray painting a local park. In all, officials said, 14 sites were tagged throughout town, totaling more than $1,000 in damage.

Parents of the suspects saw news reports of the case and recognized their children from the surveillance video. They brought them in Wednesday morning; officials said police are recommending the teens, whose names were not released, be charged with criminal mischief.
