A man who led police on a chase through Morgan and Weld counties that reached up to 100 mph Saturday is in custody.
The incident began in Wiggins when an officer received a complaint of a man driving erratically at a high speed. As she was taking the complaint, the officer spotted the vehicle and began to follow it.
The driver, identified as Michael Turner, 28, from Firestone, allegedly began swerving into adjacent lanes of traffic to get away.
The suspect turned west on Highway 34 and sped into Weld County, “often driving into oncoming lanes against traffic,” according to a Wiggins police release.
At one point, the driver attempted to ram a Morgan County deputy’s vehicle, according to the release.
The car rolled over stop sticks deployed by the Colorado State Patrol west of Kersey and veered off the road when the tires deflated, and rolled over in a field.
Turner left the car and made an obscene gesture when officers ordered him to get on the ground.
Weld and Morgan county deputies and a Kersey police officer chased Turner on foot and took him into custody when he finally dropped to the ground.
He was taken to the Morgan County jail. Turner was driving on a revoked driver’s license and had outstanding warrants for domestic violence from Weld County.
