With more than 100 local and national bands packed into one day in Denver, the Westword Music Showcase is like an adrenaline shot of music.
From beginning to end, it’s about 10 hours of bands. To help you plan your local-band schedule, we put together our suggestions of local acts to see June 20 in the Golden Triangle.
2:30-3:10 p.m., Stoney’s Main Stage — Plume Varia
You’ll be partying all day. Might as well start with something a little cerebral — and menacing. Enjoy an early respite from the sun with Plume Varia’s dark, cool electro-pop.
3:40-4:20 p.m., Dazzle — Oko Tygra
A nice next step: In the velvety confines of Dazzle, catch the moody dance act Oko Tygra. Thoughtful, patient grooves drive Joshua Novak’s dreamy vocals to cloudy spaces.
4:35-5:15 p.m., Dazzle — Ian Cooke
Stick around at Dazzle to catch material from Ian Cooke’s upcoming album, “Antiquasauria.” We’ve already heard a few lovely tracks from Cooke’s dinosaur-themed release. An intimate, lonely atmosphere gives the music an ancient quality, while it remains forward-thinking in its rhythms and melodies.
5:15-5:55 p.m., La Rumba — Sound of Ceres
Having returned with the new project Sound of Ceres, Ryan and Karen Hover (of Candy Claws) are experiencing some of their biggest buzz in years. The project, a collaboration with members of Apples in Stereo, has seen positive coverage locally and nationally.
6:10-6:50 p.m., Stoney’s Main Stage — Land Lines

6:25-7:05 p.m., The Church — In the Whale
How do you want to end your Westword Music Showcase? With In the Whale, you’ll get a gut-punch of two-piece rock and roll. Flying beer. Shoving. Really loud drums and guitar. Alternatively, you could take it easy with the beautiful, hypnotic indie chamber-pop of Land Lines.
