Darryl Hamilton, a former Major League Baseball player who was an outfielder for the Rockies from 1998-99, was fatally shot Sunday by a woman in an apparent murder-suicide in suburban Houston.
Police in Pearland, Texas, say they believe Hamilton, 50, was shot several times by Monica Jordan, 44, who then turned a gun on herself.
Investigators say they found a 14-month-old child unharmed at the home, just south of Houston, when they discovered the scene. Hamilton and Jordan were the parents of the infant, police said.
Pearland police say there were called to the home on Sunday afternoon where they found Hamilton’s body near the entrance and Jordan in another area.
“The investigation is ongoing,” police said.
Authorities have not elaborated on the relationship between Hamilton and Jordan.
Hamilton played 13 seasons in the majors leagues before retiring in 2001. The standout center fielder was part of the 2000 New York Mets team that went to the World Series.
Hamilton was a career .291 hitter who played in 1328 major league games. He made just 14 errors in his career and had a .995 fielding percentage.

He was a talented and personable individual.”
Hamilton was working as an analyst for the MLB Network at the time of his death.
