Dr. Philippe Weintraub, a psychiatrist on a contract with the University of Colorado, saw James Holmes at Denver Health Medical Center on Nov. 19, 2012. In jail, Holmes had developed an acute psychosis, Weintraub said. “This psychosis was associated with a variety of behaviors which included not eating well,” Weintraub said. Stress and isolation in jail can impact someone’s mental health, Weintraub said under cross-examination by District Attorney George Brauchler. “The stress of facing potentially hundreds of counts of murder and attempted murder — stressful? Is that fair?” Brauchler said.
