High water levels continue to restrict boating at Chatfield State Park, but the park entrance at South Wadsworth Boulevard has reopened in time for the July 4th weekend.
With the reopening of the Wadsworth entrance, the dog park is once again accessible, park officials announced this week.
“The lake remains closed to the launching and loading of trailered vessels,” officials said on the park’s website.
The north and south boat ramps are closed, although “hand-launching” of canoes, kayaks, and similar vessels is allowed.
Flooding in the park has raised safety concerns around trailered launches.
The park and park campgrounds are open. Campers should access the park through the Plum Creek Entrance on North Roxborough Park Road.
Other parts of the park that remain closed because off flooding are:
• Main Park Road south of the swim beach to Platte River parking
• Marina parking lot
• Plum Creek picnic area
• Restroom facilities and parking lots in flooded areas
Parking spaces in the park are limited because of flooding. Drivers can only park in designated spaces.
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers is monitoring downstream flows on the South Platte River and will determine when, and how much, water will be safely released from the dam, which will relieve flooded areas.
