Citizens urge the recall of Jefferson County school board members Ken Witt, John Newkirk and Julie Williams during a rally in Clement Park last October. (Andy Cross, Denver Post file)
Re: “Jeffco school board campaign is another misuse of political recall,” July 1 editorial.
I couldn’t disagree more with your editorial on the recall campaign against three Jefferson County school board members.
I did vote almost two years ago (not for Julie Williams, Ken Witt or John Newkirk), and have been extremely unhappy with the statements, attitudes and direction of our board since. The addition of superintendent Dan McMinimee has done nothing to quell concerns considering the legacy he left in Douglas County, which continues to be fought in the courts.
A recall is for just such an occasion — when the officials you’ve elected are not serving your interests. If enough people sign the petition, shouldn’t they have the right to vote in those who are?
When a board continues to serve a personal political agenda rather than one that serves our students to the point of walkouts during school hours, something must be done.
