COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Another case of rabies has shown up in El Paso County, this time in a bat found by a cat in northeast Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Tl7mst) the cat was not vaccinated and was euthanized to prevent it from possibly contracting the virus and passing it along to others.

El Paso County Public Health communicable disease program manager Shannon Rowe says it’s important for pet owners to remember to keep animals up to date on rabies vaccinations.

A case of rabies was diagnosed in a kitten earlier this year, forcing 20 people to update their vaccinations. Two dogs and a cat that came in contact with the kitten were also put down.
