Authorities in Douglas County are offering to test rifles to rule out their connection to the death of a 60-year-old Monument man apparently on national forest land by an errant bullet.
“The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently working to exclude firearms that were not involved in the shooting death of Glenn Martin,” a news release issued Thursday said. “We recognize that there were numerous people shooting in the park … many of whom may be worried the fatal shot could have come from their firearm.”
Martin was killed July 3 in Rainbow Falls Park in Pike National Forest.
Signs at the campground show shooting is prohibited.
Authorities say Martin was shot once.
Anyone with information or wanting a gun tested can contact the sheriff’s office tip line at 303-660-7579.
With so many gun enthusiasts in the Rainbow Falls Park area, stray bullets have raised concerns and have been blamed for close calls, especially within the past year.
