“Firefly” fans, this one is for you.

Alan Tudyk, who played the pilot Wash on Joss Whedon’s science-fiction cult classic “Firefly” and in the movie “Serenity,” is at this weekend talking about his new online project “Con Man.”

“Con Man” is about actor Wray Nerely, played by Tudyk, who piloted a starship on a fictional canceled cult television show called “Spectrum.” (Sound familiar?) Years later, he now goes to science-fiction conventions and lives in the shadow of his more famous costar played by none other than Captain Tightpants himself, Nathan Fillion.

Tudyk wrote and directed the 12-episode series, which was . The Indiegogo campaign was a huge success, raising about $3.1 million from 47,000 funders.

“Con Man” will premiere on in September. Its trailer screened Thursday at the show’s Comic-Con panel in the legendary Hall H.

The trailer seems to get the right tone for convention culture. Anyone who has gone to cons knows how crazy it can get. Tens of thousands of fans, the costumes, the merchandise, the panels, the signings. Some actors go to promote shows currently on the air. Others’ shows got canceled last year, or a decade ago or longer, but time doesn’t matter to their loyal (and sometimes pushy) fans.

Showing up in the “Con Man” trailer are Sean Astin, Henry Rollins, Felicity Day, Milo Ventimiglia, and Tudyk and Fillion’s “Firefly” co-stars Gina Torres, Sean Maher and Summer Glau. Oh, and also Joss Whedon.
