Police are searching for a missing Mesa County baby and his mother who have been gone since Saturday morning, officials said Sunday.

Shannon Kunkel, 34, left a note that her parents discovered around 5:30 a.m. Saturday stating that she was “going into town,” according to a Colorado Bureau of Investigation press release

Kunkel and her 18-month-old son, Luke Kunkel Jr., have not been seen or heard from since.

The woman was last seen on G 3/8 in Palisade, investigators said.

The vehicle the description police provided is a dark blue 1992 Toyota Camry with a Colorado license plate of 180-GMQ.

Luke is described as a 28 pound, white male with blonde hair and green eyes last seen wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans.

His mother is described as a five foot four, white woman weighing about 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

The release said she was last wearing an orange t-shirt, blue jean shorts and flip-flops.

Anyone with information about either’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office at 970-242-6707.
